Re-Awakening the Stars through Sidereal Astrology
This past Christmas Eve, I visited Lowell Observatory in Arizona. It was a dark, cold night. The stars were bright, and the Moon and Jupiter were displayed through a telescope. It was a unique visual experience.
As we were standing outside, a lady was discussing the stories of the constellations and the characters involved. I started thinking about how some astrologers associate the myths of the constellations with our lives and how our own astrological charts spin similar stories to explain incidents and characteristics of our own earthly experience. As above, so below, right?
I started seriously studying tropical astrology in 2021. Since then, I have been contemplating sidereal astrology. I went back and forth for a while on which astrology to learn. I settled on tropical astrology because I couldn’t find a teacher to direct me on how sidereal astrology works.
The Star View App is a Key Ingredient
Getting back to Lowell Observatory. As I continued examining the cosmos with the naked eye, I decided to pull out my phone and tap the rarely used Star View app I’ve had on my phone for years. I lifted my phone to the sky to observe Jupiter and saw that he was in the constellation of the Ram!
Seeing the visual set me on edge because when I look at my astrological software, Jupiter has been sitting in the sign of Taurus for the last year.
Tropical astrology feels like a fallacy. It’s calculation doesn’t give a true picture of the sky. How can we trust that the cosmos represent our nature in how they speak to us and reflect their stories through our experiences here on Earth?
In February, I had the opportunity to visit Griffith Observatory. The notion of what the Sky View app whispered to me continued to plague me. Especially when considering that the signs of the houses and their ruling planets in astrology speak to us through stories about our human experience. These moving bodies reveal how we are living in relation to cosmic stories and facts that have been shared for millenia.
Researching Western Sidereal Astrology
According to Astro.com the Fagan — Bradley sidereal ayanamsa is the oldest because it is based on Babylonian astrology used in the Hellenistic period.
After observing my birth chart against Western sidereal astrology transits, I felt as if I had come home to my true birth chart, especially when combining the chart with Hellenistic Astrology techniques.
I am waiting for a book to arrive written by Kenneth Bowser. I hope to learn all the nuances of Western Sidereal Astrology.
There are books written by Cyril Fagan and Donald Bradley, but they are not easy to come by, as Fagan’s book on this subject was published in 1949. It seems there is an illegal copy being sold on Amazon but when I find a decent priced copy, I do plan on reading it. The book is called, Zodiacs Old and New: A Probe Into Antiquity And What Was Found.
What I have learned in my observations regarding the sidereal zodiac, is that everything I’ve learned through Hellenistic Astrology still holds much value and can be used through the view of Sidereal observational astrology.
Perceptions Change in Time
What I’m doing is changing the lens of perception regarding my experience and in so doing, I am having a true soul conversation with the cosmos as they are.
I still have much to learn about sidereal astrology. I will continue to make observations and work to understand the framework of astrology from what I see and know to be true from my own soul’s guidance.

Authors Note
As I was going through old posts I’d written on Medium last year (as you do during Mercury Retrograde). I found the above post. I wrote it last year while I was alone in my sidereal astrology quest and still figuring things out. It is similar to a recent post I’ve written about my journey. For context, I wrote this article on April 10, 2024, at 17:18 PST. This is the timestamp saved in the word document. I thought this post might help others who stumble across it. Especially those who find themselves at a similar tropical vs sidereal crossroads.
